Native American Heritage Month – November 2014

in the hands of the great spirit

This month we celebrate Native American Heritage. Explore the story of the Native Americans and celebrate their myriad cultures with a variety of material the library is featuring and displaying on the main floor of the Anderson Academic Commons. Click here for a list of books and DVDs in which you can discover the rich roles they have played in American history.

Native American Heritage month started out as an effort to recognize “the significant contributions first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the U.S.” “In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 ‘”National American Indian Heritage Month.”‘ Since 1994 similar proclamations have been made with slight variations on the name.
